OGT keeps some from graduating
Comments 0 | Recommend 015 Lima Senior, six Elida seniors won't graduate after failing test
LIMA - Eighteen Lima Senior High School students won't graduate next week because they haven't passed all five portions of the Ohio Graduation Test. It's the same number as last year.
The school has two students who may fall under state criteria for an "alternative pathway to graduation" and still graduate. The criteria include grade-point averages and attendance.
Lima Assistant Superintendent Jill Ackerman said some students have text anxiety or just barely miss passing. The district hopes to better get the word out about the alternative pathway, starting in the middle schools.
A smattering of seniors from around the area, including six at Elida High School, will also not graduate. Students are tested in math, reading, writing, science and social studies, and they have multiple chances to take the test. The problem areas seem to be science and social studies.
Students can try again the week of June 23, a month earlier than in past years.
