Several players and coaches have been recognized with Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Division Awards.
Division 1 Team Sportsmanship honors went to the Lima Senior boys and girls teams. Dave Ring of St. Marys was named boys Division II Coach of the Year and Steve Brown, also of St. Marys, was named the boys Division II Assistant Coach of the Year, Bluffton won the boys Division 3 Team Sportsmanship award, Cal Freeman of Celina was named the girls Division 2 Coach of the Year and Cory Rawson (team sportsmanship) Paige Ordway of Continental (player of the year) and Kristy Hasenkamp of Delphos St. John’s (assistant coach of the year) were recognized in girls Division III.
Wapak coach Ross Kantar received the Kim Mahoney Award, named after the past OHSAA assistant commissioner. Receiving 100 varsity wins milestone honors were Freeman (118 career victories), Paul Dingledine (130) of St. Marys, Caroline O’Brien (106) of Shawnee, Ring (109) and Eric Gerker (102) of Ottoville.
First team Division I boys honors went to Alex Ehora (Lima Senior). Division II first team members included A.J. Siefker (Elida), Cameron Deardoff (Kenton), Zac Nelson (St. Marys) and Zack Wilker (St. Marys). David Nester (Bluffton), Stephen Tatarkov (Bluffton), Dallas Geckle (Continental), Seth Ricker (Fort Jennings), Ian Richey (Kalida), Dillon Burkett (Liberty-Benton), Zach Garver (Liberty-Benton), Jacob Lyberg (Liberty-Benton), Matt McNamara (Lima Central Catholic) and Taylor Zwiebel (Temple Christian) were selected to the first team in Division III.
Bekah Carr (Celina), Cassidy Slusher (Elida), Alyssa Manley (Bath), Kaitlynn Gronas (Shawnee), Kristen Dammeyer (St. Marys) and Sara Warner (Wapakoneta) were girls Division II first team members and Jill Steinmetz (Bluffton), Paige Ordway (Continental), Samantha Wehri (Delphos St. John’s), Ashley Gable (Fort Jennings), Brittney Kahle (Kalida), Sam Johnson (Liberty-Benton), Kayla Trevino (Liberty-Benton), Sydney Santaguida (LCC), Michelle Maag (Ottawa-Glandorf) and Megan Siefker (Ottawa-Glandorf) received first team Division III recognition.
The Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association (NWOSSCA) has announced that the winners of the 2013 NWOSSCA Scholarship Awards are Kyle Rossman of Cory Rawson High School and Jill Steinmetz of Bluffton High School. They will each receive a check for $250 to be used towards their college expenses.
The presentations will be made on Sunday at the 2013 NWOSSCA District Senior All-Star games at Findlay High School.
All-district soccer games
The Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association (NWOSSCA) will hold the 11th Annual Senior All-District Games on Sunday at Findlay High School’s Graham Field.
Seniors who have been selected to the 2013 All-District squads will play in these annual season-ending matches.
The women’s game will begin at noon followed by the men’s game at 2 p.m.
Marion Local’s Jacob Kunkler (defensive player of the year) and Tim Goodwin (coach of the year) were joined by Coldwater quarterback Brody Hoying (offensive player of the year) in receiving top honors on the all-Midwest Athletic Conference football team.
Joing Hoying on the first team offense were end Ethan Wolf (Minster), receivers/split ends: Eli Wolf (Minster), Troy Homan (Marion Local), Adam Klosterman (Coldwater) and Damien Richard (Versailles), punter Dustin Rethman (Marion Local, kicker Peyton Kramer (Marion Local), center Ryan Shumaker (Delphos St. John’s), guards: Sam Poeppelman (Marion Local) and Noah Gehron (Parkway), tackles Jason Brunswick (Marion Local) and Spencer Ginter (Delphos St. John’s) and running racks Tyler Jettinghoff (Delphos St John’s), Jacy Goettemoeller (Marion Local) and Christiaan Williams (Anna)
Besides Kunkler, who plays inside linebacker, also making the first team defense were ends Andrew Schwieterman (Coldwater) and Peyton Kramer (Marion Local), interior linemen Jason Brunswick (Marion Local) and Mitch Fullenkamp(Coldwater), inside linebacker Mitch Schoenherr (Coldwater), outside linebackers: Brandon Prenger (Marion Local) and Cody Looser (Delphos St. John’s), corners: Dustin Rethman (Marion Local) and Adam Klosterman (Coldwater) and safeties Hoying and Evan Fleck (Marion Local).
