Despite playing without its injured starting quarterback, Pitt recruit Adam Bertke, Marion Local rolled to a 47-14 win over Coldwater in a showdown of state-ranked Midwest Athletic Conference football teams on Friday night.
Marion Local (8-0, 6-0 MAC) came into the game ranked No. 1 in Division VII in The Associated Press state poll and Coldwater (6-2, 5-1 MAC) was No. 2 in Division V.
Bertke’s backup, Dustin Rethman, completed 8 of 13 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns. Two of those scoring throws went to Hunter Wilker, one on an 85-yard play and the other on a 55-yard scoring strike. Troy Homan caught a 29-yard pass from Rethman for another TD.
Wilker had three catches for 147 yards. The Flyers were also effective on the ground, with Jacy Goettemoeller going for 109 yards on 24 carries and scoring three touchdowns.
Marion Local jumped out to a 40-7 lead in the third quarter.
For Coldwater, quarterback Brody Hoying rushed for 117 yards on 17 carries and passed for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Van Wert 35
[body] Will Batt had a huge night for the Bulldogs (5-3, 5-2 WBL) when he completed 14 of 25 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards on 11 carries.
Van Wert (0-8, 0-7 WBL) had a 21-14 lead at halftime but 16 unanswered points by Defiance in the third quarter turned the game around.
Van Wert quarterback Colin Smith threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 56 yards. Terrance Branson caught eight passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns.
[body] Crestview (6-2, 4-1 NWC) exploded for 35 points in the final two quarters to erase a two-touchdown lead by the Bearcats at halftime.
Malcolm Oliver rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns and Preston Zaleski rushed for 94 yards and scored three touchdowns for Crestview.
For Spencerville (4-4, 3-3 NWC), Anthony Schuh gained 121 yards on 21 carries and had three touchdowns.

[body] It was no contest from the opening kickoff when Delphos Jefferson jumped out to a 35-0 lead after one quarter.
The Wildcats rolled up 558 yards of total offense and limited Montpelier to 30 yards overall.
Austin Jettinghoff threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter. The TD throws were a 42-yarder to Ross Thompson, a 46-yarder to Zavier Buzzard and an 85-yarder to Tyler Mox.
Mox also ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter.
Allen East 14
[body] Matt Wilcox threw for 399 yards and six touchdowns for Ada (6-2, 5-1 NWC). Austin Dumbaugh had nine catches for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Wilcox also rushed for 87 yards.
For Allen East (3-5, 2-5 NWC), Ross Stewart rushed for 127 yards on 24 carries.

Dayton Jefferson 20
[body] Plummie Gardner connected on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Neal in the fourth quarter for the decisive score in the Commodores’ third win of the season.
Gardner was 15 of 21 passing for 291 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 61 yards and two more TDs in Perry’s non-league win.
Shelby Woodall rushed for 91 yards on 24 carries for Jefferson, which jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of touchdown passes by Dylan Wright.
[body] Conner Cotterman rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns and two teammates also rushed for more than 100 yards to lead the Pirates to their win.
Ryan Davidson had 133 yards on 8 carries and Tanner Lane gained 127 yards on 17 carries.
Riverside rolled up 454 yards total offense, all but 16 yards of it on the ground, and held W-G to 67 yards overall.
