Auglaize sheriff warns of scam
Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon is warning residents to be wary of a new telephone scam.
Solomon said crooks are calling individuals and identifying themselves as U.S. court employees and telling them that they have been selected for jury duty. The callers ask the victims to verify their names and Social Security numbers and ask for credit card numbers. If victims refuse, the callers threaten them with fines.
Solomon said the judicial system does not contact people by telephone and ask for personal information. Correspondence for jury duty is provided through the mail, he said.
Solomon said anyone receiving a similar call should not give out any information and should contact their local law enforcement agency.
