Man strikes Sidney business with car, leads cops on pursuit
SIDNEY — A Sidney man is facing multiple charges after leading officers on a two-county pursuit late Thursday.
Capt. Rod Austin, of the Sidney Police Department, said it all started shortly before 11 p.m. when officers were called to the Dawg Pound Lounge, 553 N. Vandemark Road, Sidney, on report of a man driving recklessly in the parking lot. As officers were headed to the scene, they were informed the man had struck the business with his car.
“Upon arrival officers located the subject in his vehicle, he refused to comply with the officers’ directions and a vehicle pursuit ensued,” Austin said. “The pursuit occurred within the city and then proceeded into the county.”
The driver, Darrel W. Browning, 51, of Sidney, fled the scene. Officers from the Sidney Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office pursued. Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office joined once Browning traveled into Logan County.
Austin said a Logan County Sheriff’s Office deputy was able to deploy road spikes at state Route 47 and state Route 235, north of DeGraff. Browning’s vehicle struck the road spikes and the pursuit continued for a short distance north on state Route 235 before the vehicle’s tires deflated, Austin said.
An official with Sidney Municipal Court said Browning made his initial appearance in court Friday on charges of failure to comply with an officer, vandalism and obstructing official business. Browning is being held in the Shelby County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bail.
