LIMA - A Lima firefighter ended up with eight stitches after injuring his hand at an accident scene Saturday.

The firefighter was using an extraction tool to get a woman out of her car following an accident at Metcalf Street and North Shore Drive about 3 p.m. Saturday when his hand was crushed in the apparatus. He was taken to St. Rita's Medical Center, where he was treated and released, according to a spokesman for the Lima Fire Department.

The woman who had to be extricated also was taken to St. Rita's for treatment, the spokesman said. Neither victim's identity was available late Saturday.
