Man found competent to stand trial in brother's death

LIMA — A man who allegedly approached a sheriff's deputy to say he shot his brother to death was found competent to stand trial Friday.

Judge Jeffrey Reed made the ruling in the case against James Ream after reviewing a mental health evaluation of Ream.

Ream's attorney, Greg Donohue, asked the court for the evaluation to determine competency to stand trial.

Ream, 56, is charged with murder with a gun in the Oct. 17 death of his 62-year-old brother, Ronald K. Ream. The slaying happened inside a home at 1240 Fairgreen Ave., southwest of Lima.

Ronald Ream was shot multiple times.

Reed also scheduled a trial for April 30. A pretrial was scheduled for April 6 and a motion hearing set for March 2.

Ream approached a deputy the day after he allegedly shot his brother and told the deputy what had happened. The deputy reported the incident and Shawnee Township Police went to the house to check on the brother. Police found him dead with multiple gunshots to the upper torso.

James Ream had stayed with his brother on and off, police said.
