Fifteen 'best of show' awards given during Putnam County Art Show

On Sunday, May 5, over 1,000 pieces of artwork from elementary, junior high, and senior high school students were on display for the 2013 Putnam County Art Show. This year's student artwork was eligible for "Award of Merit" ribbons, as well as a number of special "Best of Show" rosettes. Fifteen “Best of Show” rosettes were awarded.



This year's exhibition was held at the Miller City-New Cleveland Gymnasium. Kay Ahten was this year’s guest judge.



Kay Ahten graduated from Bluffton College in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in education and an art major.



Mrs. Ahten taught was hired at Ottoville Local Schools in 1971. While at Ottoville, Kay served as the technical director of the high school musicals from 1977-2003. In 1988, the Drama Club was established and Mrs. Ahten then became technical director for those productions as well. Kay entered into retirement in 2001.



Kay has spent the past 38 years as craft director creating backdrops and props for various programs at Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos. In 2002, Kay began working part time at Beining’s Nursery and Landscaping. More recently Kay has been employed as the artist for Windows Creations, Inc. where she creates customized stained glass windows.



Sponsors of this year's show were the Putnam County Art Teachers' Association and the Putnam County Educational Service Center.
