OTTAWA - On Friday, March 1, women, men and children in more than 170 countries will celebrate World Day of Prayer. This year, the women of France are featured. They have chosen the theme I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

Locally, the 2013 service will be held at Ottawa Presbyterian Church, 150 North Oak Street, Ottawa, and will begin at 11:30 a.m. All men and women in the area are welcome to attend. The Ottawa Presbyterian Women will provide a salad lunch following the service.

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together each year on the first Friday in March. Services begin at sunrise in the Pacific and follow the sun across the globe on the day of celebration.

Please invite your friends, family and communities of faith to join not only the women of France but people here in Putnam County and all over the world to support ecumenical efforts toward welcoming the stranger. The annual offering supports the work of World Day of Prayer USA and helps meet the needs of families all around the world who are victims of many forms of poverty, violence, discrimination and other injustice.
