KALIDA - Oscar Velasquez is painting his tneth outside in Putnam County. The mural is located on the side of the Pizzeria building in Kalida along US224. This will be the second mural Velasquez has painted in Kalida.
Last year he painted a mural on the side of the Kalida IGA building. This year’s mural features historical businesses, people and memories of former Pioneer parades in Kalida.
Velasquez started the mural in mid-June and hopes to have it completed by the end of July.
“I’ve had my eye on this outside wall for nearly 8 years,” Velasquez said. “Then last year I was contacted to do the Kalida IGA wall. I mentioned this wall. This year the Pioneer Committee contacted me about doing this mural.”
Velasquez already has several sponsors to help fund the cost of the mural, but indicated more are needed.
If someone wants to pay tribute to their Kalida ancestors or a business they can contact Millie McElwain at 419-532-3126.
Velasquez has painted murals in Leipsic, Ottawa, Panodra, Columbus Grove, Continental, Miler City and Kalida.
