LEIPSIC - Two organizations at Leipsic Schools were the recipient of the America’s Farmers Grow Communities grants given out by Monsanto.

The Leipsic FFA and Leipsic Music Boosters each reached a check for $2,500 last Thursday evening during a check presentation prior to the school board meeting.

Joe Phillips from Monsanto, said this program gives out $2,500 per county He said Putnam County received two checks because they were declared as a federal disaster because of last year’s drought.

A name is selected from farmers who apply to be eligible for the program. The family of John and Lisa Kohls, Leipsic, were chosen as the winners.

“I received a call from the program and they wanted to know which program I wanted to receive the money,” said Lisa. “It was a surprise. But then I got thinking we were farmers and could support the farm program. So I chose FFA.”

Kohls said they then told her she had to choose a second group since Putnam County was going to receive a second $2,500 grant from Monsanto.

“I chose the Music Boosters at Leipsic,” Kohls said. “I thought they could appreciate the money.

Kohls said the groups will let her and Monsanto know how they use the money.
