Putnam County Schools were well represented at the Ohio School Board Associates Northwest Region Spring Conference held at the Penta Career Center in Perrysburg on Thursday, March 14. The theme for the evening was to celebrate 26 Acts of Kindness in honor of the lives lost at Sandy Hook, and the NW Region was happy to celebrate 26 + 9 Acts of Kindness during the evening.



More than 200 school board members, administrators, staff, students and guests from across northwest Ohio gathered for the conference.



The conference featured updates from OSBA officers and staff and a number of awards and recognitions. The region recognized exemplary student programs; outstanding school board members and administrators; veteran school board members; 2012 National Board Certified Teachers; and the Northwest Region Teacher of the Year nominee.



Awards presented to Putnam County schools included:



Community Service Awards – Elementary



Runner-up: Ottoville Local After School Program – Making small pocket flags to send to military personnel on the front lines to remind the troops we care about them.



Top Elementary Honor: Glandorf Elementary Student Council – Annual cotton ball sale.



Community Service Awards – High School



8th Runner-up: Kalida National Honor Society – Toys for Tots



7th Runner-up: Kalida High School Cats Who Care - Halloween Food Drive.



6th Runner-up: Ottawa-Glandorf Art Club and Intervention Classrooms – Food Drive



5th Runner-up: Ottawa-Glandorf Student Council – Teens for Jeans



4th Runner-up: Ottawa-Glandorf National Honor Society – Diaper drive and money collection for Putnam County Help Me Grow Organization.



2nd Runner-up: Miller City-New Cleveland – “Shout Out for Sydney”



1st Runner-up: Miller City-New Cleveland FFA – Scrap metal drive



Top Honor for High School Excellence in Community Service: Leipsic Local – “Hoops for Hope”



Community Service Awards – Community Organization



Ottoville Immaculate Conception Parish Youth Group for services and programs they perform throughout the year.



Virgil Holbein from Ottoville w as also recognized as a veteran board member.

Twenty counties comprise the OSBA Northwest Region: Allen, Auglaize, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Mercer, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot.
