Putnam recorder warns of "deed processing" scam

Putnam County Recorder, Cathy Recker, warns citizens to beware of a “Deed Processing Notice” being sent to local homeowners in the area, from a company with a Washington, D.C. address.



Record Transfer Service, offers for a fee of $83.00, to provide the homeowner with a copy of their deed as well as a “property profile”.



Recker wants to make sure that the residents of Putnam County understand that the Recorders Office is the official keeper of Land Records for the county. Upon request they will be happy to furnish a copy of a deed for .25 per page, with a deed usually being one or two pages long.”



All information regarding property in Putnam County can be found in the County Courthouse.



The Recorders Office in open Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30, and is located on the second floor of the Court House.
