OTTOVILLE - A fundraiser is planned for March 23 to assist with medical expenses for an Ottoville girl.

Emma Wenzlick, daughter of Brian and Jill Wenzlick and sister of Hannah, is a young cheerful ten year old girl who loves crafts and giggling with her friends. However, her life is currently very different from all of the rest of her fourth grade classmates. In January 2010, Emma developed severe neck and back pain. After multiple trips to Dayton Childrens and Columbus Nationwide Childrens Hospital, a Rheumatologist, Dr. Charles Spencer, was able to find the source of Emmas pain. She was diagnosed in October 2010 with Juvenile Dermatomyositis.

Juvenile Dermatomoysitis is an autoimmune disease that affects approximately 5,000 children in the United States. The primary symptoms of this disease are weak muscles and skin rash. Unfortunately, Emmas weakness is so severe that she is only able to attend school two hours a day on a good week. Because she has an autoimmune disease, her immune system is very weak and she is more prone to developing infections. The medications that are given to help treat this disease are also immunosuppressive and this causes Emma to get sick more frequently and for longer periods of time than most children. Additional information regarding Emmas disease and her journey is available by visiting

To help with the familys ongoing medical expenses, The Ottoville Mothers Club will be sponsoring a 5K and mile fun run/walk on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Ottoville Park in Ottoville, Ohio. Registration will begin at 8:30 A.M. with the 5K race starting at 10:00 A.M. and the mile fun run/walk beginning at 11:00 A.M. All ages are welcome to participate in either run/walk. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by March 15th and can pick up a race entry form at the Ottoville Post Office or can visit Emmas website for an entry form.
