The fair opened at noon with Don Verhoff, Putnam County Agriculture Society President, paying tribute to the veterans. A 1945 vintage Willys MB was parked near the Main Entrance in honor of the veterans.

State officials had issued proclamations supporting the fair. The traditional reciting of the FFA and 4-H creeds were done by the members.

Dan Cubbison, the first vice president of the Ohio Fair Managers Association presented two awards to Verhoff. The Putnam County Fair were recipients of second place for TV advertisements for small fairs and first place for excellence in advertising in a newspaper flyer.
