COLUMBUS GROVE - Skyler Mayberry said the two days of activities planned for Columbus Grove alumni will be a fun way for former students of the school to reconnect.
Mayberry is a member of the Columbus Grove Alumni Association. They are planning numerous activities for the alumni celebration this year.
On Friday, June 14, a cocktail party for all classes will be held at the Columbus Grove Swimming Pool from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Those in attendance will receive a ticket for a free drink. There will be a cash bar. Live music will be provided during the party. There will be no swimming.
On Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon alumni can tour the new and renovated Columbus Grove School buildings.
The Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday evening at the Columbus Grove American Legion Hall. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the meal will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Mayberry said it is always a tradition for classes to give a speech on what their “claim to fame” was. He said they will honor classes graduating with a 3 or 8 at the end of their graduation year. They will also honor the class of 1963 as they celebrate their 50th anniversary. Mayberry said this is also 50th anniversary of the consolidation of Columbus Grove and Vaughnsville schools.
“We will also honor classmates who fought in Vietnam,” he said.
Tickets for the banquet are $15. They may be purchased at Carl’s Hardware and Hawkeyes Pharmacy. They can also be purchased online.
“We also plan to honor former teachers and administrators,” Mayberry said.
He said they have also preserved and reproduced a reel-to-reel film showing the school and students in 1936 and 1937. The reproduction of this film, available on CD, will be sold for $20.
