Program has teens teaching peers to drive safer
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LIMA - The OSU Extension office is looking for teenagers to become classroom driving instructors.
The office and county juvenile court is teaming up to bring the Caution and Responsibility Teens (CARTEENS) program to the county.
Teenagers in jeopardy of having their licenses taken away because of driving violations will be referred to the program. They will have to attend a four-hour driving class instructed by other teenagers.
The teenager instructors will belong to a 4-H group and will have the chance to earn scholarships, said Mark Light, of the extension office. Several counties around the state, including Van Wert, currently have the program.
The program hopes to get 20 or 30 teenagers to sign up to become instructors. Sixteen to 18-year-olds are encouraged to apply. They will be required to attend training. Call 419-222-9946.
