Cashell misses cut in Buick Open
GRAND BLANC, Mich. – Scott Cashell was walking a thin line all day at the Buick Open. With the projected cut at 3-under-par, Cashell spent most of his afternoon hovering around that magic number.
At the nearly the last minute, though, the round came apart and Cashell will spend the weekend on the outside of the ropes.
A double bogey on no. 8, his next-to-last hole, sealed his fate with a 3-over 75 on Friday and a two-day total of 1-under. The projected cut was 3-under, with the afternoon rounds still on the course.
Cashell was at 3-under through 16 holes, but on the par-3 eighth, he dumped his tee shot into the left greenside bunker, caught his second with too much gusto and three putted the green.
The Elida resident shot a 4-under 68 to open the tournament Thursday.
