Post office finds new home in Lafayette grocery store
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LAFAYETTE - Residents in Lafeyette are able to get their groceries, gas and mail in one location now that the U.S. Postal Service has partnered with Clum's Gas and Grocery.
The store is bouncing back from an Aug. 26 fire in a storage area and residents say the agreement with the post office should centralize town business at the new location, 311 N. Washington St.
Previously, the post office was located at 106 N. Main St., in the downtown area.
Janette Diegand, postmaster in Venedocia, said work began Monday to move the post office to Clum's, and she has been working there to set things up and train the contracted employee who will run the station. The only major work remaining to complete the project involves setting up the post office boxes.
The project does not involve much construction, Diegand said, and the office should be operating at full capacity by the middle of next week.
Until then, she said, residents have been, and will continue to be, able to send and receive mail.
Clum's is owned by Bryan Clum and is located on the northwest side of Lafayette and the post office is located in the back.
