LIMA —The Beetle is perhaps one the best-selling and most recognizable car of all time. The round car evokes a smile from most car enthusiasts. The car has been something of a “cult” car since its 1960s association with the hippie movement and surf culture. The low price helped in selling the car as well. It’s hard to believe that the car was commissioned for the German people by Adolph Hitler. Hitler wanted a vehicle that would hold two adults and three children, that was capable of going 60 mph. Not only does the VW Beetle fulfill his requirements, it can also float on water thanks to its sealed floor pans. The 1972 Volkswagen commercial proved this.

Gary Schum, of Lima brought his 1970 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for 15 years and restored it for his wife. This cute car is sure to make people smile as they see it coming down the road.
