LIMA — The holiday season is upon us, and that means holiday events are on the horizon. Below is a list of some of the events in the region taking place this week:
Home for the Holidays Art Sale

Ongoing until Dec. 21
This blockbuster art sale features the work of 34 of the area’s best artists, offering the public the chance to buy one-of-a-kind gifts while also supporting local artisans.
20th Annual Gift Wrapping Fundraiser
DeHaven’s Home and Garden Showplace
775 Shawnee Road
Saturday through Christmas Eve. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas Eve.
The Samaritan House, a homeless shelter for women and children, will help wrap any and all Christmas gifts, not just those purchased at DeHaven’s. There is no cost for the gift wrapping, but donations to help the mission of Samaritan House will gladly be accepted.
Christmas at the Homestead
Swiss Community Historical Society Homestead
8350 Bixel Road
1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday
Enjoy the sights and sounds of a homestead decorated for the holidays as it would have been in the 1840s. Guests can snack on homemade treats while enjoying traditional holiday music. Participants can also hand dip candles, play a game of checkers, shop the gift shop and chat with staff about the house’s history. Guests arriving at dusk can see the home lit by candles. There is no cost to attend, but donations will be accepted.
Horse-drawn Carriage Rides
Pure Oil Station
4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday
Enjoy caroling while riding in a carriage throughout the village. There will also be a visit from Santa, who will bring refreshments and treats for the children. Santa will also be accepting Christmas letters during the event. The event is free to the public.
Christmas on Main Street — A Holiday Community Open House
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
Local businesses and organizations are coming together to help the community get into the holiday spirit. Among the highlights will be baked goods, handcrafted snowmen, a Christmas tree festival, a model railroad, and even Santa on a fire truck. There will also be several giveaways donated by local buisinesses.
Fourth Annual Christmas Wreath Festival
The Meadows at Putnam Acres

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today
A complimentary meal will be provided, including carved ham, crab-stuffed mushrooms, chocolate covered strawberries and vegetable, cheese and fruit displays. An assortment of Christmas wreaths will be on display and sold in a silent auction, with all the proceeds to be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Christmas Nativity Sets
St. Charles Senior Living Community

9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Jan. 5
Nativity scenes from various countries will be on display in the first floor hallway. The sets are courtesy of the University of Dayton, Marian Library.
North Pole Express

6 to 9 p.m. Fridays, 5 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 5 to 8 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 29.
Admission: $2 for adults, $1 for children 12 and under, and free for active duty military personnel and their immediate families.
The North Pole Express quarter-scale train ride will transport passengers through a sparkling light and decoration display, and over 60 decorated trees will adorn the museum. There will also be several model train layouts, and there will be plenty of gift ideas in the railroad gift shop.
Festival of Lights

6 to 9 p.m. Sunday during Winterfest, then continuing on Fridays and Saturdays until Dec. 21
No cost, but asking for non-perishable food item donation
Enjoy light displays from individuals, businesses and groups while visiting with Santa and listening to the music of the season.
