LPD negotiates surrender of barricaded man

LIMA — The Lima Police Department successfully negotiated the surrender of a man with a knife at 6:55 p.m. Sunday after several hours.


According to department officials, officers were dispatched to 125 W. Lane St. at about 2:50 p.m. Sunday in reference to man threatening neighbors. Officers arriving at the scene were confronted by the man, who was holding a knife. Officers began negotiating with the man and called for assistance.


The LPD SWAT team and the LPD Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene. Officers negotiated with the man for several hours until the man finally surrendered at 6:55 p.m.


The man was arrested with no injuries. He was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center to be evaluated by medical staff. LPD is reviewing the incident in order to determine what charges may be filed.


During the course of the incident North Main Street was closed between Northern and Robb avenues and West Lane Avenue was closed between North Elizabeth and North Main streets.
