A group of Delaware County churches has once again banded together to help clothe the needy.

SideBySide – an organization comprising members of Church of the Saviour United Methodist Church, Harlem Road United Methodist Church, Galena United Methodist Church and New Albany United Methodist Church – is once again holding a clothing giveaway.

Gently used clothing and shoes will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at Church of the Saviour United Methodist Church’s Shelter House, located at 11239 Fancher Road in Westerville.

The idea, in the first year, was to give away clothing to needy children as the school year approached, but has since morphed into an event designed to help infants to adults.

Last year, the event drew about 100 people seeking clothing, according to Judy Sharpe-Kosmatka, one of the coordinators of the event.

And although Delaware County may be considered the wealthiest of Ohio’s 88 counties, there are still people who need help.

“Just about every church in Delaware County has folks calling them to help out at different times of the year,” said Sharpe-Kosmatka.

The organization is accepting clothing donations through July 28. The items can be dropped off at the Harlem Road United Methodist Church, located at 5520 Harlem Road. According to Sharpe-Kosmatka, new underwear and pairs of socks are still in need.
