LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Lima resident who has been linked to 29 burglaries in four counties.

Mark Ball, 51, was identified after DNA found from the scene of a burglary in eastern Allen County was matched to him, according to a press release from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. The DNA came from blood found at the scene in June, when the burglaries began in Allen County, Sheriff Samuel Crish said. Ball is a convicted felon, having committed burglary previously.

Currently, Ball is being charged with the burglary where his DNA was found, Crish said. However, Ball will likely be charged with all five of the burglaries from Allen County.

Upon further investigation, police found he was involved in at least five burglaries in Allen County and many other burglaries in Auglaize, Logan and Shelby counties. Ball confessed to six burglaries in Shelby County, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Several similarities in the burglaries helped police identify Ball, like similar descriptions from victims who were home during the burglary, according to the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office. In addition, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office reported that most of the burglaries happened when an object, such as a rock, was used to break out a window of the house.

Detectives from each of the four counties are working together to connect Ball with cases in their areas. Ball is currently being held at the Allen County Correctional Center, according to the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office.
