VAN WERT — Three people were sent to hospital after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday in Van Wert County.

At 6:32 p.m. Scott Cowling, 17, of Van Wert, was driving eastbound on Wren Landeck Road in a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu and failed to stop at the stop sign at the U.S. 127 intersection. Cowling’s vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by Susan Applegate, 64, of Harlan, Indiana, driving a 1999 Ford Expedition.

Cowling and Applegate were both transported to Van Wert County Hospital. Applegate’s passenger, Jeffrey Applegate, 64, of Harlan, Indiana, was flown from Van Wert County Hospital to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor, and all occupants were wearing seat belts.
