A mail carrier died last Tuesday during his route in Amherst.

Dana Mislinski, 48, was found around 10 a.m., lying on the ground at the back of his mail truck on Brookside Drive near North Main Street, according to police.

He had just finished delivering to the Cliffview apartments.

Lt. Dan Jasinski said Mislinski suffered an apparent heart attack, though he did not have an official cause of death yet.

A passing motorist saw the postal worker slumped over and called for help.

Fire chief Wayne Northeim said Mislinski was alive when firefighters responded to the emergency call LifeCare Ambulance workers were already on the scene and took him to the hospital, where he died.

Members of American Legion Post 118 said Mislinski was a veteran. The Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard paid respects at his funeral.
