LIMA — The Lima/Allen Council on Community Affairs began it’s utility assistance program Friday.

As winter approaches, LACCA will provide help for qualifying families who have had their gas or electric utilities shut off or face the imminent risk of having a utility disconnected, or bulk fuel customers who have less than 25 percent fuel in their tank.

By applying through the Winter Crisis Program, qualified applicants will receive up to $175 for a regulated utility, $450 for a nonregulated utility, $350 for coal or wood and $750 for propane or fuel oil. To be eligible, families must reside in Allen County and earn a household of income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty income guideline. Applicants must have utilities shut off or have a shut off notice, income documentation, utility documentation and Social Security cards for all household members.

Walk-ins are available daily beginning at 7:30 a.m. until all walk-in slots are full.

To schedule an appointment or for information, call 419-227-2586.
