COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has approved 24 grant proposals for trails totaling more than $7 million, with two of those grants located in the region.

Allen County’s Spencerville Canal Trail project received almost $39,000 toward construction of a one-mile long stone base trail down Prospect Street along Morse Road. Auglaize County’s Miami and Erie Canal Shared Use trail project received almost $250,000 for the engineering and construction of a 1.12-mile paved path from the Lock Tender’s House in New Bremen to Lock Two Road, accomodating pedestrians and bicycles while also being wheelchair accessible.

Each grant recipient will provide a 25 percent match on the grant for the project.
