PANDORA — “It’s a family tradition,” said Emily Verhoff, of Ottawa, as she and her 6-year-old son, Jack, begins to pick strawberries at Suter’s U-Pick Strawberry patch in Pandora.

“My mom and my aunts always brought me out,” said Emily, “since I was a little girl. And now I bring my son, who helps pick strawberries for my mom and my aunts, and this will be Jack’s second year picking strawberries.”

Jerry Suter, owner of Suter’s Produce, said the strawberry crop is a little light this year because of the cold hard winter.

“We have 12 acres of strawberries this year,” Suter said. “And the way it looks right now we are going to close the U-Pick Strawberry patch until Saturday to just give the strawberries a little more time to ripen”

On Saturday the U-pick hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Suter suggests calling first to make sure it is open before coming out. The number is 419-384-3331.
