Dems pick Mathews
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LIMA - The Allen County Democratic Party on Thursday named Josiah Mathews as its candidate for the Board of Commissioners this fall.
After attorney Farley Banks withdrew his candidacy, Mathews signaled his intention for the seat and no other candidate offered his or her name for nomination during a party meeting.
Mathews said he has found his inspiration to run for county office "in the price of a gallon of milk and the price of a gallon of gas."
"In November, Allen County voters will have a chance to choose a new direction for our lives," Mathews said. "I want to run a race for the everyday people like me who know what it is like to feel the pain at the pump and the grocery store."
Mathews, 26, is a Perry High School and Apollo Career Center graduate and is pursuing a business degree at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Mathews has been employed by General Dynamics but is now facing a layoff after a military contract suspension, he said.
"He's a hard worker, determined," said county Democratic Party Chairman Rick Siferd. "He has good ideas on big issues."
