TEAM OUTLOOK: Bath has its big three pitchers back, with right-handers Gossard (8-2, 2 SVs, 2.20 ERA) and Sullivan (2-2, 3.50) and lefty Jordan (4-3, 2 SVs, 2.64). The trio helped the Wildcats to the district finals last year. Also back is left-hander Hunter Weis, who missed last year after having back surgery. That gives the Wildcats four quality pitchers.


Keys include getting consistent hitting and replacing four defensive positions from last year.

TEAM OUTLOOK: Gone from last year’s state championship team is the 1-2 pitching combination of Robert Zeigler (to Kentucky) and Wes Rivers (to Lincoln Trail CC). Both are signed to pitch for the Locos this summer. Hancock (3-1, 1.42) and Turner (5-0, 0.29) will help reload the rotation. Gentile (.383) is the team’s top returning hitter. Defiance will have plenty of speed and it should be a good offensive club. The key will be the pitching, including Hancock, who is coming off meniscus knee surgery.


Elida

As usual, Brandt will stress making all the routine plays on defense.

TEAM OUTLOOK: Seven starters return, including staff ace left-hander Helm, from a team that reached the state semifinals. Helm was all-state with a 9-1 mark and 1.36 ERA. The team will get a late start after winning the state basketball championship, but look for the veteran group to once again be the team to beat in the NWC. This team has the pitching, hitting and defense to make another long tournament run.


Delphos Jefferson

Also back is Bettinger, who hit 468, and Heyne, who batted .420. The Cavaliers are loaded with experience from last year’s co-MAC champions. Look for Coldwater to again make a run for the MAC pennant before heading down the tournament trail.

But the Wildcats still have 11 veterans back, including right-hander Trushaw (5-0, 2.69). Nixon hit .429 last year. The key will be developing consistency in the pitching staff.
