FORT RECOVERY — Brent Niekamp begins his 10th season as Fort Recovery’s head coach.

Although the Indians have yet to post a winning record, they certainly have become more competitive.

In 2010 the Indians were outscored by more than 21 points per game. Last season despite going 3-7, Fort Recovery was outscored by just nine points per contest.

On the offensive side of the ball Mitch Stammen, Kyle Schroer and Cole Hull are skilled players that are expected to carry the load. Stammen carried the ball 34 times last season for 213 yards for 6.3 yards per carry and one score. Schroer had 13 rushes for 93 yards for 7.2 yards per carry. Hull rushed seven times for 42 yards. As a team the Indians averaged 115.2 yards rushing per game.

Quarterback Stammen completed 22 of 52 yards for 253 yards and two touchdowns.

If Stammen is not throwing passes he is will be a primary target. The senior led the team with 37 receptions for 351 yards and four touchdowns last year. Schroer and Hull combined for 38 catches and five touchdowns.

Up front Seth Riegle, Alex Schoen and Nick Link will help a team that averaged 17.2 points per game last season. Finding two more linemen and some depth will be critical.

With 45 players on the roster, many players will play on both sides of the bal,l so injuries and developing quality backups will be very important.

Linebacker Seth Riegle returns after leading the team with 112 tackles and five sacks last year. Schroer made 37 stops and two interceptions last season. Linebacker Alex Schoen made 17 tackles last year in eight games.

Nick Link is the top returning lineman from a team that allowed 26.7 points and 310 yards per game last year.

The Indians begin the season hosting North Union before jumping across the state line and traveling to Jay County in Week 2.
