XENIA — Lima Locos reliever Erich Stahl hit Clayton Brandt with a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to lift Xenia to a 6-5 victory over the Locos Monday at Athletes and Action Sports Complex.
Brandt was the first person Stahl faced, after coming on with the bases loaded. Xenia scored two in the eighth to take the lead.
The Locos (1-2) are back in Xenia for a 7 p.m. game tonight. Xenia is 4-1.
The Locos trailed 4-0 after five innings. Lima came back and took the lead 5-4 in the top of the eighth on a two-run home run by catcher Daniel Garner (Mississippi State). It marked Garner’s third home run in his first three games.
Xenia right-hander Carlos Pena (Sinclair CC) started the game with five no-hit innings. Locos second baseman Matt Morse (Alabama-Birmingham) broke up the no-hitter when he led off the sixth inning with a double.
Pena went seven innings and gave up three runs on four hits. He struck out three and walked two.
The Scouts scored three in the first to run out to a 3-0 lead against Locos starter Alex Thaxston (Marshall). The Locos made two errors and two of the three runs were unearned.
Thaxston went three innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on two hits. He struck out four and walked two.
Tyler Anderson (Bowling Green/Shawnee) came on in relief of Thaxston for the Locos. Anderson went 3 2-3 innings and gave up one run on one hit.
Ben Hudspeth (Mississippi State) took the loss in relief. In one inning, he gave up two runs and walked four.
The Locos walked nine in the game.
The Locos scored three in the sixth to get within 4-3. D.J. Smith (Georgia) had a two-run triple to make it 4-2. Dylan Ingram had an RBI single.
