WASHINGTON — Bryce Harper started Sunday in for the Nationals a day after he was replaced in the sixth inning for lack of hustle.

In the sixth inning on Saturday, Harper hit a comebacker to the mound and was easily thrown out at first base. The two-time All-Star was replaced in left field by Kevin Frandsen for the following inning.

Following the eventual 4-3 loss, Nationals first-year manager Matt Williams cited “lack of hustle,” for removing Harper. “That’s why he came out of the game,” Williams said. “He and I made an agreement, this team made an agreement, that when we play the game, that we hustle at all times.”

On Saturday, Harper said after the game: “I respect what he did. That’s part of the game.”

In his third season, Harper is batting .295 with one home run in 16 games this season. He previously missed Wednesday’s game in Miami because of tightness in his quadriceps.

Blackhawks’ Seabrook suspended for three games

CHICAGO — Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook has been suspended for three games for his hit on Blues center David Backes during their first-round playoff series.

The NHL announced the punishment Sunday, Seabrook’s 29th birthday.

Seabrook received a five-minute major and game misconduct penalty for a vicious elbow to Backes’ head late in the third period of Saturday’s Game 2. Backes had to be helped off the ice and did not return during St. Louis’ 4-3 overtime victory.

Seabrook’s penalty led to Vladimir Tarasenko’s tying goal with 6.4 seconds left in regulation.

The suspension is a big blow for the Blackhawks, who are down 2-0 heading into Game 3 tonight. Seabrook had a goal and an assist in each of the first two games of the series
