LIMA - A man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend waived his right to a speedy trial Tuesday.


Timothy Brown’s attorney asked for more time to prepare for trial. Brown also was closing in on the 90 days in custody, which by law, he has the right to have his case tried by.


Brown, 48, is charged with murder in the Oct. 3 slaying of 32-year-old Valeda Thomas at 218 W. Murphy St. Thomas had a protection order against Brown. Police said the shooting may have resulted from a domestic dispute. Thomas died of a single gunshot wound to her head.
