PUTNAM COUNTY — Three Ohio politicians have sent a letter highlighting the importance of securing funding for the Blanchard River Flood Reduction project.

Congressman Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green, and U.S. Sens. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, have sent a letter to Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy, assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, requesting the project be prioritized. Priority status would secure funding for the project for the second half of fiscal year 2013. The project was converted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers planning process in 2012.

The letter says completing the chief’s report by the time the next Water Resource Development Act passes will be necessary for the project to be eligible for authorization. The project has entered its sixth year of study. The local cost-share necessary for the project is in place.

“Continuation of the BRFRP is imperative for the safety and economic growth of Findlay, Hancock County, Ottawa and Putnam County communities,” the letter says.
