LIMA — It is the smile people remember most, and family members of Sarah Parsons hope it will bring people out Sunday to support the family and a good cause.

“She had the most beautiful smile that could light up a room. She was so passionate,” said older sister Arienne Chamblin. “Anyone who knew Sarah or ever met Sarah, will always remember that smile.”

A memorial poker run and gathering will benefit Parsons’ husband, Lee, and their three children. Parsons died of cervical cancer in May.

Registration for the poker run will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at Springbrook Gardens, 4155 Ottawa Road. The cost is $10 for riders and $5 for passengers. The first bike will go out at noon, with the last bike back at Springbrook at 4 p.m. There will be several stops along the way, including at the Alibi Lounge, Thirsty’s and A.J’s Tavern.

Live music, food and raffles will begin at noon and go until 9 p.m. at Springbrook. The cost is $5. Local bands will take the stage each hour beginning with the Dave Liles Band at noon. It will be followed by Dead Time, DSS, Minor Blues, Nashville Crush, Super Villain, Country Mile and Big Worm and the Night Crawlers.

The event will also include information on cervical cancer. This is an important part of the day for the family. Parsons was the second of five sisters to get cervical cancer. An older sister is a 10-year survivor.

“Our goal is for people to get checked,” Chamblin said.

A portion of money raised will go toward cervical cancer research at the Ohio State University Medical Center. The rest will go toward medical expenses, including two times Parsons had to be taken by helicopter to Columbus.

Parsons, a 2005 Columbus Grove High School graduate, was diagnosed in October. She developed blood clouts that went to her kidneys. She died at home with her family. Parsons was a mom, Chamblin said.

“She bragged on the fact that she was a stay-at-home mom,” she said. “She loved her babies.”
