LIMA — A Lima Senior High School teacher accused of attempted sexual battery of a student waived his preliminary hearing Thursday, sending his case to the grand jury.
Gary E. Jones, 59, elected not to hold the probable-cause hearing at Lima Municipal Court. Jones’ bond was reduced to $1,000, and he remained in jail late Thursday afternoon.
Jones was arrested April 5 while the school system was on spring break. He was accused of committing a crime the same day: attempting to have sexual conduct with a student from the school. Jones was hired by Lima Schools in 2005 and is a health and physical education teacher. He has been suspended without pay.
