LIMA — Lima Police Department officials are investigating a Sunday night stabbing that sent a woman to the hospital with what officials characterized as potentially serious injuries.

Sgt. Ron Meister said Loretta Young was stabbed just before 7:30 p.m. during an altercation inside 407 E. Kibby St.

Young’s condition wasn’t known. An officer at the scene said she had been stabbed twice, with one wound being in the throat. A nursing supervisor at St. Rita’s Medical Center said Young was still being treated in the emergency room late Sunday.

Patrolman Scott Boettinger said a suspect left the residence following the stabbing and he believed the person was pulled over by police officers a short time later. Meister declined to say if a suspect was in custody. He did say detectives were actively working on the investigation Sunday night, including interviewing several people.

Boettinger said the victim was visiting the Kibby Street home and did not live there. Her age wasn’t immediately available, though she was believed to be middle-aged.
