Spencerville considers tax increase for police

SPENCERVILLE -Spencerville's village council may ask voters in November to increase the income tax by 0.25 percentage points, designating the increase of village police operations.


Spencerville council had its first reading on an ordinance to increase the income tax and a first reading asking the Allen County Board of Elections to put the increase on the November ballot on Monday. The issue requires three readings before being passed. The issue must be approved by Aug. 7 to appear on the November ballot.


The village currently has a 1 percent income tax on the books, boosting the rate to 1.25 percent if it succeeds in November.
