WAPAKONETA — The investigation continues into the death of a Wapakoneta man who was killed early Tuesday when he was struck by a train near the city’s downtown.
Lt. Calvin Schneider of the Wapakoneta Police Department said the man, Anthony A. Schneider, 30, was struck by a CSX train just south of the Auglaize Street crossing. Police are looking into whether the death was a suicide, Schneider said.
“I don’t believe he was confused,” Schneider said. “[Suicide] is what it looks like to us. But, it’s probably too soon to say for sure.”
The conductor of the train called police at 1:01 a.m. Tuesday reporting that a pedestrian was struck by a northbound train near the Auglaize Street crossing.
Anthony A. Schneider was pronounced dead at the scene by Auglaize County Coroner Thomas Freytag.
Police were not releasing many additional details, including whether a conflict preceded the incident.
“I can’t say for sure,” Schneider said. “It’s unknown at this time.”
