LIMA — Since birth, Paislyn Metzger has been burdened with an underdeveloped heart.
Diagnosed with congenital heart disease, she has undergone one heart surgery, all before her first birthday. The right side of her heart is underdeveloped.
“Soon as she was born, they took her up to Toledo hospital, then from there went to the University of Michigan,” said John Long, benefit organizer and friend of the family.
Long said a website, littlemissmiracle.org, and a Facebook page under the same name can provide additional information on Paislyn Metzger’s heart disease and provides updates about her status.
“They’ve already had one surgery on her, she’s got two more to go,” he said about procedures to help repair Metzger’s heart.
To assist parents Aubrey and Jacob Metzger with medical expenses, a benefit will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Lima Community Church’s The Axis center, 2945 N. Cole St.
Long said the Playing for Paislyn benefit will feature live bands, worship music and a silent auction. Originally scheduled in December, the benefit was postponed until January because of bad weather.
“We’re hoping to get a lot of people there,” Long said.
The little miss miracle website also has shirts available for purchase to support the Metzger’s, and Long said response to sales has been good. Throughout Paislyn’s illness, he said the Metzger family has stayed positive
“They’re staying strong in their faith, and continuing to persevere through it,” Long said.
