LIMA — American Trim will eliminate a dozen positions as it moves a planned decorated products line from its Baxter Street factory to Lebanon, Ky.

American Trim acquired Angell-Demmell North America and its Kentucky plant in December. At the time, the company said the purchase would help the Lima-based company’s growth. Since then, the company discovered “duplicate resources,” according to a news release issued Wednesday afternoon by American Trim.

The Baxter Street facility will remain in operation but focus on development instead of production. The privately held company also has facilities in Dayton.

“About a dozen technical and operating positions will be eliminated, and the incumbent personnel will be re-deployed to other open positions in the company if possible,” according to the news release.

American Trim creates metal products for the appliance, automotive and heavy truck industries. In recent years, it stepped forward as an advanced materials manufacturer, in part thanks to nearly $3 million in state grants in the past five years.

The company and its partners received $994,263 from Ohio’s Third Frontier Fuel Cell, Advanced Energy and Targeted Industry Attraction program to work on making fuel cells affordable in April 2011. It received another $994,000 in February 2010 to fund installation of a new coating line at the Baxter Street facility from Ohio’s State Energy Plan. In March 2008, American Trim and its partners received a $1 million Third Frontier grant to help develop an affordable hydrogen fuel cell engine.

American Trim is also actively involved in the Lima-based Ohio Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Center, which received a $3 million grant in 2008.
