LIMA  An Elida man was hospitalized Tuesday after an accident on Lincoln Highway involving a motorcycle and a tractor carrying a two-ton planter.

William Blew, 73, of Elida, was riding his Harley-Davidson westbound on Lincoln Highway east of Thayer Road around 3 p.m. Tuesday. He was behind Robert Spallinger, 55, of Bluffton, driving a tractor carrying a planter.

Blew attempted to pass Spallinger on the left, but Spallinger was turning left into a field.

The two vehicles collided. Blew was ejected, and the planter came to rest on top of him in a field left of the highway.

Beaverdam Fire and EMS personnel freed Blew, and he was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center, where he was in fair condition Tuesday night.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Lima Post cited Spallinger with failure to yield.
