LIMA — The doctor convicted of aggravated murder earlier this year in the carbon monoxide death of his first wife is being sued by his former mother-in-law.Sara Schlarman filed the lawsuit Friday in Allen County Common Pleas Court against Mark Wangler seeking more than $25,000 in damages in a wrongful-death lawsuit. Schlarman recently was successful in reopening the estate of her daughter, Kathy Wangler. She also was appointed administrator, two steps she needed complete to file the lawsuit.Schlarman said Mark Wangler planned Kathy Wangler’s murder in September 2006 and carried it out using carbon monoxide from an engine in the garage.She also said Dr. Wangler sedated his wife with an elevated dose of her epilepsy medication while he prepared to deliver a fatal dose of carbon monoxide through the home’s furnace ventilation system.The lawsuit said Dr. Wangler closed all the heating vents in the house except in the bedroom his wife was sleeping to pump deadly carbon monoxide into her room.“Due to the diabolical nature of Ms. Wangler’s murder, it took police several years to bring charges against Dr. Wangler,” the lawsuit said.Dr. Wangler was convicted in March of aggravated murder in the death of Kathy Wangler.
