LOCKINGTON - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation of an early morning series of incidents in which a local man suffered several gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred about 5:28 a.m. Wednesday.
According to Sheriff Dean Kimpel, Kenneth W. Snider, 48, 598 Cross Trail, was treated at the scene by Lockington Rescue before being transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight helicopter. Deputies said the victim received two gunshot wounds in his lower back from a small-caliber handgun.
Snider is reported in stable condition at the Dayton hospital.
Ronald E. Smith II, 22, 10387 Seminole Trail, the alleged assailant, has been charged with felonious assault and was incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail.
Deputies' investigation of the incident revealed Snider reportedly went to the Smith residence, allegedly breaking the windshield of a vehicle with an ax.
After a female resident of the Seminole Trail address went to Snider's home to confront him and was allegedly assaulted by Snider, deputies said Smith, her brother, went to the Cross Trail address, firing the weapon at Snider as he came to the door. The weapon was recovered by sheriff's deputies.
Assisting sheriff's personnel at the scene were two Sidney Police officers and a trooper from the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Houston Rescue and Lockington fire units also responded.
