LIMA — In what is being described as a change in direction, the Allen Metropolitan Housing Authority board voted Wednesday to fire Executive Director Cindi Ring.
“The board has determined we want to go in a different direction with leadership,” Board President Lamont Monford said.
Ring was put on paid leave on Aug. 2. After an executive session Monday, the board also put maintenance manager Traci Rogers on leave. No action was taken Wednesday regarding his employment.
Public housing manager Anna Schnippel will be the acting director, Monford said. A search will begin for a new director, he said.
Ring joined the agency in 1977 and has been director since 1994. Monford stressed that Ring had done nothing illegal.
Monford was asked after the meeting if the resignation of assistant director Daniel Hughes last month sparked the change in direction.
“No. Not necessarily. As a board, we’ve always been concerned about the direction of this agency,” Monford said.
Asked if Hughes would be considered for the now-vacant position, Monford said he had not had conversations with Hughes about that.
Regarding Ring’s performance reviews, Monford would not comment, saying that Ring has hired an attorney, and the authority’s lawyer has advised him not to discuss it.
When contacted Wednesday, Ring referred questions to her attorney, Victoria Maisch, of Lima. Maisch could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Ring did clarify that her home phone number, which The Lima News reported had been disconnected, has, in fact, been disconnected for several years because her cell phone is her main number.
