LIMA —When Cyndi Conner lost her life suddenly in September, her family was stunned.
But to add insult to injury, she was without insurance and no savings for the funeral, so funeral expenses and hospital costs were passed on her two daughters, Hali, 24, and Sabra, 21. Their father died a couple years before.
Conner’s younger sister Nikki Miles decided to organize a benefit to remember her sister as well as raise money to pay off her funeral and health-related costs, called “Big Love 4 Big Cyndi."
“They’re just kind of getting started in life,” said Miles of her nieces. She said her nieces don’t deserve to be burdened with debt, especially after their loss.
Admission will be $5, which includes live bands and food. There will also be a raffle, a silent auction and door prizes.
The event begins at noon Sunday at Sportscasters, 1031 Findlay Rd., Lima.
Bands begin at 1 p.m., and include The Dave Liles Band, Will Freed, The Gunz, Big Worm & The Knuckleheads, Stink Pipe, Over the Hill and Karaoke All-Stars.
Despite her loss, Miles said she’s been very pleased about how many people have stepped forward with donations for the cause.
“People have just come together,” she said. “They’re really amazing.”
For those unable to attend the event, but would still like to help, donations can be made directly to the “Cyndi Conner Memorial Fund” at any Superior Federal Credit Union branch.
