Soldier's body returning to Waynesfield

LIMA The body of Staff Sgt. Sonny Zimmerman, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on July 16, will be coming home Thursday.

Armentrout Funeral Home said Zimmerman would arrive at the Allen County Airport at 9:20 a.m. Thursday. From there, he will travel to Waynesfield via East Hanthorn Road to state Route 117 (Bellefontaine Road) through Westminister, turning right onto state Route 196 (Waynesfield Road) and heading south to Waynesfield. Once in the village, the motorcade will turn left at the light and go one block to the Armentrout Funeral Home, 200 E. Wapakoneta St.

Those who wish to honor Zimmerman are encouraged to line the route.

Visitation from Zimmerman will be from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Waynesfield Goshen High School. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the school.

Residents in Waynesfield decorated the village with flags in honor of Zimmerman.
