LIMA — Students and staff were evacuated from the Allen County Educational Service Center on Tuesday afternoon after an anonymous bomb threat from within the building.

Superintendent Brian Rockhold said the threat came just after 1:30 p.m. from someone on the four-building campus, located at 1920 Slabtown Road.

“It was not a call we got or someone that called in to make a threat,” he said. “It was someone here on site, and the investigation is now underway to determine the offender.”

Rockhold declined to say if it was a verbal or written threat or if it came from a student or staff member. No one else was on the campus. Rockhold said a staff member from one of the student buildings brought it to his attention.

About 120 students and staff were evacuated. Students were released for the day from the nearby Allen County Farm Park. Students are normally picked up at 2:30 p.m.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Allen County Emergency Management Agency and Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District all responded to the school. Nothing was found in the building, and classes will resume today. The sheriff’s office is investigating.

This is the first threat like this the school has had, Rockhold said. The school followed procedures already in place.

“I am pleased by the way our staff responded,” Rockhold said.
